TALLAHASSEE, FL – Concerned about questionable marketing tactics employed by companies selling prepaid calling cards, Attorney General Bill McCollum has announced that his office has launched a formal investigation into several entities in the prepaid calling card industry including multiple distributors and service providers.
The investigation will work to identify prepaid calling card providers and examine their marketing practices which have been called into question as deceptive or deliberately fraudulent. A series of subpoenas, served today by the Attorney General’s Economic Crimes Division, seek information related to potentially fraudulent advertisements on posters and over the airwaves about the number of minutes provided on various cards. A particular focus of the investigation will concentrate on the marketing of the calling cards to individuals who don’t speak or read English and are trying to call other countries to reach their relatives or friends.
The investigation will examine the allegations that immediately after the first call is made on a card, companies begin deducting various fees, service charges, taxes, and in some cases, round call times up in three minute increments so that the stated minutes are not available. In many cases these fees, service charges and other terms and conditions of card usage are not disclosed, or are disclosed only in English on Spanish language posters and cards.
The Attorney General’s Office encouraged Floridians who believe they might have been victimized by unfair practices when purchasing and using prepaid calling cards to contact the Attorney General’s fraud hotline at 1-866-9-NO-SCAM (1-866-966-7226) or file a complaint online at http://www.myfloridalegal.com. The following companies were subpoenaed regarding the prepaid calling card investigation:
- CVT Prepaid Solutions, Inc.
- Blackstone Calling Card, Inc.
- Alternatel, Inc.
- Prima Communications, Inc., also known as PCI
- Cinco Telecom Corp., doing business as Orbitel
- Cristel Telecom, LLC
- STi Prepaid, LLC, doing business as STi
- Union Telecard Alliance, LLC, also known as UTA
- IDT America, Corp, also known as IDT
- Total Call International, Inc., also known as Total Call Mobile, Inc. 7-23-07

Blah Blah Blah STX Communications

I have heard from a customer that the STX phone card Blah Blah Blah is very good for calling Honduras. They tell me this product is selling very well in Louisiana. The best discount I have been able to find is 24%. Please do get in touch with me if you know of a better discount on the Blah Blah Blah phone card

Also a long established product by the same company, STX is called STX National. The advertised and delivered minutes on STX have increased substantially. We do offer this one at both of our websites. STX national has a loyal following and now it seems to be getting better.

Call Home From Alaska

Just got in two more phone cards specifically designed for calling home from Alaska. xxx has long been THE one and only best card for calling Philippines from Alaska. This card was issued by xxx with the network services provided by Smartalk. There were two versions, one for the continental United States, and one version for originating from within Alaska.

Then Smartalk decided to get out of the phone card business, so xxxl moved the xxx to Sprint. The quality was stil quite good. Sprint eventually decided to eliminate this product line, so xxx established their own switches and came up with the very creative name xxx ... of course the similarity to the name SmarTalk is purely coincindental.

The xxx version of xxx was good for a few months, but the delivered minutes started dropping off. Now xxx has issued a new version called "xxx Alaska". This xxx Alaska phone card has fewer surcharges and is specifically desinged for calling from Alaska.

xxx Alaska and its cousing Luzviminda Alaska are available at phone card hotline and www.hellocallingcards.com
